Pada tahun 0079 di Abad Universal, Federasi Bumi memulai Operasi Odessa — serangan besar-besaran untuk merebut kembali kota besar Ukraina dari Kerajaan Zeon. Ini sukses, dan pasukan Zeon yang tersisa tersebar di seluruh dunia. Federasi Bumi unggul dalam Perang Satu Tahun dan mengerahkan pasukan daratnya di seluruh planet untuk memburu orang-orang yang tersesat.
